Now Foods Quercetin with Bromelain – the Good & the Bad

Now Foods Quercetin with Bromelain Nutrition Ingredient Label

First of all, I trust Now Foods as a nutritional brands, and I choose them often when it comes to supplements. As an added bonus, they price their products affordably, and you can find them fairly easily.

Secondly, the company typically uses high quality ingredients in their products, as well as a high concentration of nutrients. For example, they use Quercetin Dihydrate in this supplement, which is known to have the highest bioavailability when it comes to quercetin supplements.

Their Quercetin supplement has (not surprisingly) one of the top-selling products and ratings in this category. It also contains Bromelain, which can be a good thing – or not so good. Let me explain…

Why Take Now Foods Quercetin with Bromelain?

Quercetin supports healthy histamine levels, which in turn helps to maintain a balanced immune response. Bromelain similarly supports the immune system because it is an anti-inflammatory enzyme. The two ingredients can work synergistically together, essentially giving you more bang for your buck.

As a side note, people often take Bromelain by itself to help digestive issues, such as inflammatory bowel disease. It can also help relieve sinus infections, allergies, asthma and joint pain (source).

In the following video, Dr. Justin Marchegiani talks about what we can do to naturally protect ourselves from allergies. These tips include lifestyle changes we can make, foods we can eat (and avoid) and natural supplements we can take.

Two of these include, not surprisingly, quercetin and bromelain. In addition to fighting off allergies, Dr Marchegiani says that quercetin can also help with autoimmune conditions.

He says that bromelain is useful to decrease inflammation. It is naturally found in the pineapple fruit. However, he usually recommends getting this nutrient in supplement form rather than in the food because pineapple has a high amount of sugar in it.

Seeing that the Now Foods brand contains both quercetin and bromelain, this product has some obvious advantages. However, it is not for everyone. What are some disadvantages of Quercetin?

What Can I Give My Dog for Allergies?

Also, one of the more popular natural dog itching remedies contains both quercetin and bromelain. Plus, it has turmeric and omega 3 added as well.

Who Should Not Take Bromelain?

Some people should avoid bromelain. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, bromelain can cause nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. If you have high blood pressure, liver or kidney disease or have a bleeding disorder, bromelain sshould be avoided.

They also state, “People who are allergic to pineapples, Latex, wheat, celery, papain, carrot, fennel, cypress pollen, or grass pollen may also be allergic to bromelain.”
